games we wish didn't take 10plus years to release...

Post  hoikam EXE on Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:48 am

Anyone else in on this? Like seriously, 10 years for mvc3, 10 years for sc2, like 13 years for duke nuke 'em....... what else?!

So duke nuke 'em got pushed back yet again from may to june, and personally, I only think its making the game worse.

Anyone care to discuss how certain games take so long to release and if it affects the game serverely or actually improves the game?

It didn't take 10 years for MvC3 to get released. Back in '04 or so it was discussed reason why there will not be an MvC3 and it was mainly an issue having to due with Publishers, Capcom's approach towards other genre's and most important, the Marvel license. The idea of another Marvel has been around for ALMOST as long, but I wouldn't say that it 'took 10 years' for a game to come out.

Duke Nukem... that is a whole new story and they've been through so many developer's and have been canceled and delayed so many times that the news did not surprise me one bit.

I'm up to discuss what games I've been waiting a long time to come out with a sequel. One game in particular, Final Fantasy VII remake. Many speculations and rumors, but that is exactly what that is... for now. At a Manager's Conference when we were with the Square-Enix panel, that question came up, but they couldn't comment on it. You remember that PS3 Tech Demo that was released to the press? You know how long it took to make that? You're going to tell me that you only spend that much time and effort just to release a 'Tech Demo'? GTFOH! It's been said that it'd take at least 7 years or more to make a FFVII remake... IMO, it'd be worth it and I'd play it.

I personally like ff8 more than ff7, but I would totally get the remake if they actually made it. Of course id like to see a ff8 remake too! Very Happy

Although I don't get why they would spend that much time and money to make a "tech demo" and never consider releasing a remake.... seriously...

On one note, metal gear and metal gear solid hasn't failed to produce! =D
I love those games!

Any thoughts on the ff13 sequel that's in the makings?

I'm all over FFXIII-2! I loved VIII as well, but it was VII that made FF mainstream and everyone else jumped on the bandwagon.

I love the MGS series and have owned and played each one. If I have time, I may go back to play some MGS4. I love the collectors edition box for it.

Lol ff13 looks great graphically, but it could have been better in my opinion.

ff7 did make the series more mainstream but that's not why I love ff.
Did you play the original ff tactics? That game was awesome!

Which was your favorite mgs?

Of course I played the original FF Tactics! I'm not only a hardcore gamer, but a collector and I actually own the original game for the PSX, not no bs 'Greatest Hits' version or 'rom' or the PSP version. Actually, I do have the PSP version because you just CAN'T NOT own the PSP version as well, right?

MGS2 is my favorite with 4 being next. Mostly because of the Marines, lol. Oorah!

Lucky you, I moved serveral times and used to have all the original copies of every ff game released in america till I moved to arizona and was forced to leave them behind...
Now the only ff game I have is ff13.
But I mastered ff7, ff8, ff10, and almost ff tactics. All without guides or assistance, just A LOT of time as a kid, lol.
In tactics I had all favorite characters lvl9, including cloud and the robot thing. =D
Lol, one of the characters, if you use too much, he leaves your party. The one who joins with the excaliber equiped, the real one, not the fake.

As for mgs, it'd be mgs2, mgs4, then mgs3.

Mgs2 is first cause you can get all the dogtags on the tanker and get infinite ammo, and all tags on the main scenario gets you that camo thing otacon has! What a Face

Heck yes! I remember playing that game all the time!
Playing that game over my console games... it was too good of a game!

Not too many handheld games are able to compare to console games that I know of.

Pokemon and final fantasy are THE only games that rock the handheld!
Lol
Pokemon was the only reason why I got a gameboy!
The ff games started comming out and that was time spent like a fat kid eating cake and pudding! Shocked

Well its still fun cause you can play it even when your not at home.
And you can play with or against other people in the psp version.

They should keep making more ff tactics games, they were all awesome and fun to play.

They have that new Ogres Tactics game for the PSP, or is it Tactics Ogre? I haven't been following it up, but I'm sure its a remake of the original. I have the Saturn version.

Speaking of SS, Panzer Dragoon!

Now going back to FFT. When I first got my PSP version, I hooked up my PSX w/original FFT and played them side by side and was jotting down differences.. cuz I'm a nerd and noticed that the dialogue changed some. I prefer the original script over the new one, but love the animation... then again, I loved the original CG too. Shit was too good and ahead of its time. They could have made an FFT movie from it.

Indeed a movie would have been nice.
And you call me bored for posting on this forum all day?! Playing them side by side to see differences?! Lol jk

I prefer the original over the remake. There are serveral things in the original that you can't do in the remake.

It wasn't out of boredom playing side by side. If I said I was playing JUST the original and didn't own the remake, yet had a few of the latest games... never mind. That doesn't make sense either, lol.

I call it being hardcore. I'm actually doing something.

Lol hardcore...
My friend's a hardcore gaming freak. We searched an entire day away looking for a copy of mortal kombat tournament edition when it came out, hastings messed up his pre-order on it. But he was dying to get it THAT very day.

Spending a day looking for a game is not something that I would define as hardcore.

Naming a pet/child after a character.
Traveling to Japan to experience the mecca of gaming culture
Importing games before them hitting the US
Building a collection based on year, console, genre, developer, etc...
Going to school for game programming
Getting a job in the gaming industry
etc...

Just a few samples

He's naming his first child after his favorite tekken character, Sergei Dragunov.
Id call that hardcore no life for tekken.

Eh... yeah, but I feel it has to be more than just ONE thing. That's cool though, but don't see it happening. The mama isn't going to play that shit at all! So he better name a dog after that instead.

Lol, id find that funny though, but sorry for the kid that he doesn't have a true name for himself.
If I named my kid after a video game character, I would make it obvious to none gamers or anyone in general. Like Squall from ff8. I personally think Squall is a unique name and would want my kid to have a unique name to stand out from the "mainstream" crowd of other kids.

I'm telling you... your wife will not name her kid, 'Squall' no matter how unique YOU think it is. She will be looking in the baby naming book and looking at meanings and etc...
