rock stars table tennis anyone? lol

Post  hoikam EXE on Thu Apr 28, 2011 1:14 am

An almost pointless sports game really, but does anyone play any other not so popular sports games?

Hot Shots Golf, Fifa, NHL, and Top Spin!

Other games I enjoy are the games within the game: Darts, Bowling, Pool, and Shuffle Board in GTAIV! geek

Tony hawk games would be considered sports games too right?
But then again... almost everyone played those before. Very Happy

Damn... I forgot about Tony Hawk... ever since Skate came out, lol. I love Skate. I never played much of the TH games in the past anyway... too unreal, which was why I played (forgot name of game here) instead on the PSX, because it was more realistic.

Lol but that's where the fun was! You knew you couldn't do it real life so just go around making up crazy tricks and combo thingys.

Although mini games within games.... hmmmm
The beavis and butthead game on snes, the sumo wrestling, I can't remeber the other games in the arcade but they were all fun

Did you know that the wii tennis gets harder the more you play it?! Its so fun, but the game learns how to beat you if you don't keep ahead of its curve.

But... ff10 blitzball, that mini-game is one of the greatest mini-games I know.
I mastered that game, got the jecht shot and all that goodness. I even won that blitzball match that was during the storyline where anima first appears (sadly, there is no difference if you lost that match anyways).

I never had any problems with Wii Tennis because I played Tennis, so I can use slices and top spins well.

Really? That game is super hard on my friend's wii. He said he played it for hours one day and it just got impossible. I played the next day and never won.... and I play table tennis in real life, it was tough.

Table tennis and tennis are two completely different sports, but when you're playing Wii Tennis, you do feel like you're playing table tennis.

True, they are completely different.
In my opinion though, table tennis is more technical than strength as tennis is strength over tech.
Tech being the slightest movement in the hand can change the reaction made by the ball more in table tennis than in tennis.

I could be wrong though.

Tennis is techical, speed, agility, strenght, form, endurance, and placement. You have a larger area to cover in less time, with distance ranging from close to far and has more physics involved over table tennis because of the density of the tennis ball over ping pong ball. With a top spin or slice, backhand, etc you can manipulate the directional integrity of the ball. Much like in professional pool, where you can make the cue ball do a U-turn for a tricky shot, you can put a spin on the tennis ball so that when it hits the ground it changes directions! Add speed changes to it and it can get pretty sick.

You can send a tennis ball floating over the net with a backhand and have them thinking its a nice bounce, then have it change up on them. You can even do that to serves and it can be scary on the receiving end when you are trying to return a 80+ mph serve with a downward curve. Much like in baseball.

Nice, never knew those applied to tennis as in table tennis.
In table tennis, the spin of the ball can change directions in the air like a curve ball, the ball can float then hit the table and just go straight up rather than following its momentum.
Also, when the ball that has spin on it will have a reaction to your paddle, so your almost forced to impart a particular spin back in order to keep the ball in play.

Do tennis paddle thingys have different types like table tennis?
For TT(table tennis, I'm too lazy to type it out. Lol) the is different types of paddles.
Regular american sponge and topsheet, chinese, and japanese. Each has a different feel to them and a different way they create spin.

I have a paddle that's chinese, so its topsheet creates all the spin rather than the sponge in regular american paddles. Also, the handle is smaller for a penhold grip, where you hold the paddle like a pen.

Lol. If we raised some money as the "PG crew" maybe we could have one there, id love to start playing too!
Although, space is an issue as table tennis uses a lot of space.
We could re-do the inside of PG to have tournament setup in the back and casual stuff(drum game+table tennis) in the front.

Can get crazy expensive like $150 for a little table tennis paddle?
I got a $50 one, but that's as far as I go towards spending money on that...

A 'cheap' racket is about $40... from Wal-Mart...
a 'decent' racket will e about $80 or so
A 'good' racket is about $130 or so
A 'high quality' racket can set you back at least $200 and up

Tennis racket > racket paddle

just because of the material... oh, and those prices aren't including the strings!

I guess I can see how prices will be significantly higher than paddles.

Paddles persist of wood, glue, sponge and a top sheet of rubber. Though the topsheet and wood components can get massively expensive. $50+ for one sheet of rubber, and if you use both sides of the paddle, you need a red and black colored sheets. So that's $100+ right there.

Then the wood can range from $50-$200. Those pro paddles don't come cheap in any sense of the word.
