first time modding
I've never modded an arcade stick but id like to start modding my hori ex2 and maybe my tekken 6 hori controller. I think sanwa parts would be great to replace the old ones with.
So if anyone could help me out, that'd be well appreciated.

Are the hori ex2s even good for modding with sanwa parts?

Re: first time modding
There are lots of places to order those parts from. If you check SRK under the Tech forums, you'll be able to find all the links.
...or you can just ask Steve, Maota, or Bryan seeing as they order parts the most.

Re: first time modding
Alright, but I can't figure out how to get the buttons off of my hori ex2, I can get the joystick out though easy.
Would I need to desodder them? *I don't think I spelt that right*

Yes, on Hori sticks, the buttons are soldered onto the cb and will require de-soldering.

Re: first time modding
My luck.... well does anyone have a soldering machine thingy? I don't happen to have one.
This may be a tougher project than I thought, but the current buttons I'm using need serious replacement.
Technically, all I do is just melt the metal in order to take the button out, install new button, then solder it back. Simple as that?

No, you're removing the 'solder' from the button terminals (NO and NC aka Normal Open/Normal Close) Once you remove the solder, the pcb should become free, making the buttons easier to remove and replace.

Re: first time modding
Lol, so I'm guessing you've done this before?
What about the joystick? Do microswitches make a difference in performance at all?

Re: first time modding
Of course, and yes... I have a soldering iron and solder.
As far as performance... it all boils down to personal preference. Some people prefer the american bat to type joysticks and others prefer the lollypop top japanese joysticks.

Re: first time modding
I think id have to go with a ball top, since I been practicing with one on my current stick.
I can do all my combos but not as comfortably as I should be and I feel that its due to cheap parts.
My plan was to buy two cheap stick controllers, one for each console, and if I thought it was worth it, I would get new better ones, or buy new parts for the ones I already have.
But sanwa has a bat that works with all sanwa joysticks right? Anyways.... ball top is my preference, and after research and trying out a sanwa stick, sanwa plays out like bread and butter all day. =D
But the micro switches themselves, would I ever need to replace those?

Re: first time modding
For sanwa buttons, they don't use micro switches.. if those go out, you simply buy another button.

Re: first time modding
Same applies for them too. They are all sold together (switches are on a separate pcb)

Re: first time modding
Oh that's good then.
Do you know how I can get a custom top of the case?
Like I saw stone's stick and it had his name on it, I want to customize mine too.
The lamination on mine has airbubbles in it and looks ugly.

That's easy. Just get someone to hook you up with some custom artwork using the SE/TE template provided on SRK (via my thread, lol)
